I happened to shift base from Calcutta to Pune in 2016. A new set up, a new society, staying alone and I hardly knew anyone in the city of Pune. One day I sat praying and started communicating with God ( we as humans do that normally), that there is no one around that I know, I need some good friends.
It so happened that I got the news on my social group, that someone had abandoned a small puppy in the garden, and there is no one to look after him. I took the initiative, rescued it, and got him home. It was a chore, running around with the little mischievous pup, and he truly kept me on my toes.
To get him adopted and I started to contact certain animal support groups and within a week, he left with a happy family.
The puppy truly came as a messenger of God as I got to know so many people in Pune. Also, I heard of this lady who was almost 70 years of age, looking after almost 400-500 strays, feeding them two times a day, a service she rendered unconditionally for the past 32 years. How can this ever be possible? When we as humans barely have the patience to cook two meals, and even if we do, we tire ourself with the thought many a time to skip cooking once in a while.
It seemed that God has shown up yet again, and I did meet Rajni D’araujo didi, a warm loving soul. Like a sweet Pied Piper, for 34 years now, she is not only feeding but helps in finding shelter, offering medical aid to almost 500 stray dogs, single-handedly.
In her words – “ I feel their pain physically and emotionally. If I could take away their hunger, pain and suffering, I would do anything to get rid of it”.
It’s been an honour to have met Rajni Didi. 🙏You inspire us🙏
