I was sitting in the front courtyard and enjoying the sun just an hour back. There’s a park opposite our house with big trees as also electric poles with overhead wires running through them. Suddenly my eyes noticed a pair of squirrels who came on to the live wires from the tree branches which touched them. A cold shiver went down my spine at the danger of electrocution they were facing. And then I saw one squirrel in its play trying to cross over to the lower wire. As soon as it touched another wire, it completed the circuit of negative and positive. Next, I saw it dangling over the wire for a few seconds and then it fell to the ground. I opened the gate and rushed to it with a prayer on my lips. I sat down to see whether it was still alive. First suffering an electric shock and then falling from a height of nearly 25 feet must be too much for the little one I was thinking. It was lying on its back with all the four legs in the air. Its eyes were wide open. Then I suddenly noticed very small movement in its front legs. It means it was still alive and fighting for life. It encouraged me and I took it into my hands and put it on the wall of the park and started caressing it softly with prayers on my lips. Then I saw it moving its eyes and trying to get onto its feet. But it could not as its energy had been sapped by the electrocution. I rushed inside and brought some water in a spoon. It was still there struggling to move. I touched the water to its spout and then saw its mouth moving slightly as if sipping water. I kept on caressing it with love. As I lifted my hand, I saw it getting back to its feet and then it jumped into the nearby bush and disappeared.
