This weekend, I went to the store to replenish the stock of snacks I carry in my car. I offer them to a few people I meet on my way to work. There are about fifteen of them, and they take turns to stand by the curb near a traffic light. Last week, I didn’t see anyone due to bad weather. They could very well be taking shelter under the bridge nearby.
Today was a beautiful sunny day. From the store, I drove straight to the curb, saw two familiar faces. I slowed down, rolled down the window, offered them what I had. In return, I received two beautiful smiles and blessings.
While this does sound like a kind act, my conscience bothers me – I am giving away food with little nutritional value. And the people I give this to seem to prefer it to fruit, and I am not able to carry cooked food. I am still grappling with this.
